BY THE YEAR
FIRST SIGNS
Mum began to notice that Olezhik was finding it difficult to climb the stairs on his own.
It takes two minutes to understand why it’s so important for his family to make it in time
Vitaliy Sokol – Director of the International Charitable Foundation ‘Development of Our City’
He is seven. He is cheerful, energetic and very determined. If Oleg wants something, he’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
He loves animals, the swimming pool, Roblox, *Paw Patrol* and, most of all, playing in the sand.
But there’s one thing Oleg dreams of more than anything else:
RUNNING WITH THE CHILDREN.
To run
To hug Mum
Playing with pets
Mum first noticed the changes when Oleg was still very young.
BY THE YEAR
Mum began to notice that Olezhik was finding it difficult to climb the stairs on his own.
THE NEXT THREE YEARS
The family consulted various doctors.
‘It’ll all pass. It’ll blow over.’
AT THE AGE OF FOUR
During a consultation with a paediatric neurologist, the family finally received a diagnosis:
‘Unfortunately, I’m sorry…’
At that moment, Mum heard something she could never have been prepared for.
TODAY
He eats, plays and walks on his own.
However, according to her mum, the changes are becoming increasingly noticeable: she is feeling tired and weak, and finds it harder to run and climb stairs.
Oleg can still walk unaided today. And that is precisely why time is of the essence.
THIS IS NOT JUST ONE CHILD’S JOURNEY
Oleg’s mum is by his side every day. By his mum’s side are his grandmother, his little sister Bohdana, his brother and other close relatives. Since the diagnosis, the family’s life has changed completely. His mum had to give up her job to be there for her son.
An interview with Olga – Oleg’s mum
Oleg’s family are raising funds for gene therapy, which, according to his mother, has been recommended by doctors abroad.
According to the family, the doctors recommend not delaying treatment, and it is particularly important for Oleg to remain as physically active as possible.
